VIKINGS BOYS LEAD JOBURG AND EKURHULENI TO GOLD AND SILVER

As we continue to battle the scourge of the 3rd wave of COVID-19, several of Tip-Off Sports Vikings boys took part in the Gauteng Junior Provincial Basketball tournament and helped lead their teams to victory.

The journey began several weeks ago when some of our boys partook in the Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni Districts trials where after a rigorous selection process, the following boys were selected into the final districts teams:
Ayanda Mthombeni, Christiano Partridge and Siyanda Radebe made the Joburg District U16 team where they played beautifully to lead their team to gold. Connor Liebenberg also made the Ekurhuleni District U16 team and contributed in securing silver for his district.

In the U18 division, Akeru Fihla and Jordan Cloete were also selected to the Joburg District U18 team. Akeru played a leading role and Jordan contributed significantly to lead the Joburg team to victory against Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng districts.

This event also served as a selection process for the Gauteng Province U16 and U18 squads. We are happy to announce that following their brilliant performance in the inter-district tournament; Ayanda Mthombeni, Connor Liebenberg, Christiano Partridge, Siyanda Radebe and Akeru Fihla have been selected to the Gauteng provisional 20-man training squads where the final 12-man U16 and U18 teams will be selected to represent Gauteng in the Inter-Provincial Basketball tournament coming up later in the year. The IPT will also serve as a selection process for the SA Schools National U18 Team to travel to the 18th Edition of the International School Sport Federation Games in Jinjiang, China from 16-23 October 2021.

This achievement bears testimony to the dedication of our boys who have put in the prerequisite work that is now bearing fruits. We have no doubt that these boys will continue to shine even at the next level, and we look forward to hearing more of our boys taking advantage of the resources provided by the club for them to improve themselves.

Our very own Coach Elvis was appointed the team manager for the Johannesburg U18 team, and one of Vikings’ coaches, Thabang Tumelo also served as Head Coach of the Ekurhuleni District U16 Girls Team.

Please join us in congratulating these boys when you come in contact with them and let’s continue to Do The Vikings Thing! Victory Is Certain!!

Vikings Halt All Physical Basketball Activities

As we’re sure you’re already aware, the South African government has instituted new level 4 Covid-19 regulations in the hopes of mitigating the surge anticipated as we are now fully in a “Third Wave”. This current challenge in our battle against Covid-19 means that it’s now more vital than ever to limit social contact and avoid gathering. For that reason, we’ve made the responsible decision to cancel club physical activities for two weeks. At the conclusion of this time frame (July 11) we will assess the situation per the recommendations of government and give further guidance as it relates to the club.

While we know this is disappointing, we hope you can understand the steps we’re taking to help keep our players, families and staff safe.

All is not lost however, we will be establishing an online training platform that will allow our members to continue their training and development. Information regarding the start of these virtual sessions will be communicated to you all in very short order.

Until we are able to come together again, we pray that you and your families stay safe and encouraged knowing that as with many of the struggles we face in life…”This too shall pass”!

Best Regards,
Tip-Off Sports Vikings Basketball Club
